Meet the

Advising Staff

Susan Nelson

Susan Nelson

Susan has been a part of the UW-Madison campus community since 1998. For the past three years, Susan has been advising pre-medical and pre-dental students in the College of Letters & Science. This year, Susan, with the help of many people on campus, has coordinated the expansion of pre-health advising on our campus. Susan has a Ph.D. in European History and many years of teaching experience under her belt. Originally from the DC area, Susan has now totally morphed into a Wisconsinite and loves living in the city of Madison.

Dija Selimi

Dija Selimi

Dija has been working with students for almost 10 years through classroom teaching, mentoring in the laboratory and advising both graduate and undergraduate students. She earned her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology in 2006 and continued to do research in molecular biology and biochemistry. She loves dogs, grape soda and baseball…pretty much in that order.

Lindsey DeCarlo

Lindsey DeCarlo

Lindsey has recently moved back to Madison after living in Indiana for the past 2.5 years. She began her time at the UW as a freshman living in Slichter Hall. After completing both of her BS & MS degrees (Human Development & Family Studies, and Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, respectively) she moved to a small town in Indiana to work with first year students. With over 5 years of advising experience, Lindsey is excited to return to Madison to work with the CPHA team. On her free time she can be found kayaking, roaming the farmer’s market, listening to live bands, and exploring the area.

Julissa Ventura

Julissa Ventura

Julissa is a PhD student in Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in Sociology. After completing her BA in Educational Studies and Political Science at Swarthmore College, she returned to her hometown of West New York, NJ and worked as a Placement Coordinator in a vocational school for allied health. Having enjoyed both her experience in helping adults enter the health field as well as teaching and advising UW-Madison undergraduates as a TA in Educational Policy Studies, Julissa is looking forward to working with CPHA . This is Julissa’s first year in Madison and she is having fun exploring Madison as well as getting to know the culture of the Midwest.

Kate Steinnagel

Kate Stutz

Kate is a doctoral dissertator in Literary Studies specializing in African American literature, and also teaches at the Writing Center. She received her B.A. in English with minors in Africana Studies and Psychology at SUNY Geneseo. Previously, she worked with UW Madison’s Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship programs in graduate medical education admissions and programming. Hailing from downstate New York, she is a huge Yankees fan and plans her visits home around their game schedule.
