Summer Research Opportunities Program

SROP gives students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor matched to their interests. The program provides students with a stipend and goes from June to August; applications are due by February.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Engineering

SURE is a 9-week program that connects students who have completed their sophomore or junior years with a research mentor and a research team. For Advanced Opportunity Fellowship (AOF)-eligible students only.

Integrated Biological Sciences Summer Research Program

IBS-SRP SROP gives students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor within the biological sciences matched to their interests. The program provides students with a stipend and goes from June to August; applications are due by February.

Other Summer Research Programs

• The Vanderbilt Summer Science Academy (VSSA) offers research experiences for undergraduates who want to pursue a career in the biomedical sciences.
• The UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences sponsors a summer program for students interested in cellular and molecular biology. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) offers a stipend of $4,000 for 10 weeks.
• University of Iowa Summer Undergraduate MSTP Research Program (SUMR) is an intensive research experience for individuals interested in combined MD/PhD training for a career as a Physician Scientist.
• The College Summer Fellowship Program at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Dental Medicine is a program for students who are completing their junior year and are interested in an MD/PhD degree.
• The Medical College of Wisconsin offers a Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) in the biomedical sciences.  This program is primarily intended for students interested in a PhD degree in biomedical sciences, but also encourages applicants interested in an MD/PhD degree.
• NIH offers a Summer Internship Program that connects students to research in a variety of health-related areas.
• The Summer Research Opportunities at Columbia University/Barnard College offers students interested in biology research the chance to work at either Columbia University or Barnard College.
• Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation Summer Research Internship Program offers students research experiences in cardiology.
