Student Organizations

Getting involved with pre-health student organizations is a great way to network with other pre-health students and find volunteer, job, and leadership opportunities. Many pre-health organizations also organize lectures and career panels.

The Center for Leadership & Involvement hosts a searchable database of student organizations. A search for keywords like “health” or “medicine” will reveal a number of specialized, healthcare-related organizations which have chapters at UW-Madison.

AHANA Pre-health Society ~ (African, Hispanic, Asian & Native Americans)

AHANA is the only organization of its kind at the undergraduate level. AHANA includes African/Black Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Asian Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans, which incorporates Alaskan Natives. It aims to support, encourage, and maintain the interests of minority students in pre-health professional careers.

Alpha Epsilon Delta ~ (Pre-Med Honor Society)

This honor society encourages and recognizes excellence in premedical scholarship. It aims to stimulate an appreciation of the importance of medical education, to promote communication between premedical students and medical professionals, and to provide a forum for students with common interests. AED holds biweekly meetings featuring physician speakers and offers social and volunteer opportunities.

American Medical Student Association ~ (AMSA)

AMSA represents the concerns of physicians-in-training with a membership of more than 62,000 medical students, premedical students, interns, residents, and practicing physicians. AMSA's priorities include mobilizing students in advocating for quality, affordable health care for all, global health equity, enriching medicine through diversity and professional integrity, development and student well-being.

Health Educations & Leadership Program ~ (HELP)

The Health Education and Leadership Program is a service-oriented UW-Madison Student Organization that strives to educate students and the greater community on health and wellness issues while promoting service and leadership as an intrinsic part of our daily lives.

Health Occupations Students of America ~ (HOSA)

The UW-Madison chapter of HOSA strives to provide cutting-edge resources, exploration of careers in the health sciences, and enhance opportunities for knowledge, skill, and leadership development for all undergraduate students.

Health Professions Society ~ (HPS)

HPS aims expose students to different aspects of multiple health professions, and as a service organization, aims to promote participation in various community events and volunteer activities that are mutually beneficial to organization members and the Madison community.

MedLife at UW-Madison

Medlife aims to enhance students awareness of poverty and low medical attention in Latin America's countries such as Peru, Ecuador & Panama. The group's mission is to help families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives.

Pre-Dental Society ~ (PDS-UW)

The Pre-Dental Society provides students at UW-Madison with the necessary resources and pre-dental opportunities that will help them become a strong applicant for dental school while also progressing toward a successful career in dental health care. Providing service to the community, orientating members with dental health care, and social interaction with fellow pre-dental members will be stressed.

Professional Association of Latinos for Medical School Access ~ (PALMA)

PALMA works to provide resources for, but not exclusively to, Latino/a students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who are interested in medicine and/or a medical career. Their meetings are open to everyone.

Student Emergency Medical Services ~ (SEMS)

SEMS is dedicated to giving students the hands on experience and opportunity to be educated in emergency medicine while offering services to the university. SEMS offers CPR classes, informative speakers and shadowing opportunities to learn about the emergency medical field.
