Dentistry

• UCLA School of Dentistry offers several courses for undergraduates during vacation breaks, including summer.
• The Summer Medical and Dental Education Program is a free six-week summer academic enrichment program that offers freshman and sophomore college students intensive and personalized medical and dental school preparation at various sites around the country.

Global Health Programs (International)

• Child Family Health International offers programs in Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, and South Africa for students who are interested in global health issues and would like to do service work abroad.
• Medical Spanish program - Montana State University offers a Medical Spanish program in conjunction with Universidad Veritas in San Jose, Costa Rica.
• The Medical Spanish Program at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico includes language learning and volunteering in local clinics.
• The University of Southern California’s - Somos Hermanos Student Immersion Program aims to increase the number of bilingual and culturally competent health care providers in the U.S. through an intensive language and culture immersion experience in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
• Look for fieldwork opportunities in the US and abroad through the new undergraduate certificate in Global Health.

Podiatry

• Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine has a summer internship program (SIP). Interns attend workshops and seminars on podiatric medicine, as well as shadow and work with podiatric physicians in hospital, private practice, and outpatient clinic settings.
• The Pre-Professional Internship Program at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) is designed to provide insight into the many facets of podiatric medicine and the education involved with obtaining the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree.
• CSPM Immersion Week (California School of Podiatric Medicine) offers lectures, opportunities to shadow faculty and students in clinical settings, a full day of MCAT prep, and admissions/financial aid workshops.

Pre-Med Preparatory Programs

• Johns Hopkins Summer Institute in Anatomy offers a four-week, Human Anatomy course for undergraduates.
• Georgetown Summer Medical Institute offers medical school courses for undergraduates and post-baccalaureate students.
• AAMC’s GREAT Committee maintains a list of links to Pre-Med summer preparatory programs at schools across the country.

Public Health Programs

• Wisconsin Area Health Education Center Summer Internship (AHEC) organizes summer internships and summer camps for students interested in pursuing health-related careers.
• Wisconsin Express is a summer opportunity for health professions students to spend a week immersed in one of Wisconsin’s diverse communities learning about health care resources and challenges faced by a local and regional, urban or rural population.
• The National AHEC Organization offers information about programs nationwide.  If you are not a Wisconsin resident, look here for AHEC programs in your state.
